Owners & visitors opinions in Motorola XT894 Droid 4

  • Florida in 3/6/2012
I purchased the Droid 4 on Feb. 18. I immediately had problems with it. The first problem was the time was wrong. I went to check if it was on automatic update through Verizon and it was but it was showing CST which is one hour earlier than EST and I am in Florida which is EST. I had some other issues, which looked like programming issues, but by the time I got finished with Verizon tech support 2 hours later, they told me to return the phone. I returned the phone and because I thought it was a lemon I traded for another Droid 4. Well today I had the same problem with the time. I had almost missed an appointment last week because I thought I had an extra hour. I got there late. Turns out that I didn't know that the time was off when I looked at the phone. I thought I had just made a mistake. Today confirmed that the time being off is a problem because it happened again. So now I never know if the time is right or not unless I check another source. I don't know if this has anything to do with the 4G network. The bars for 4G are very weak so maybe information flow is sporadically being received. When I get into a 3G area the bars are strong. Most people don't understand that 4G is not all around the country and if you travel internationally it definitely is not in most countries yet. Another problem, when texting and using the slide out keyboard the phone is doing weird things. For example I started to type the letter "y" and it took me to the YouTube app which is hard loaded on the phone and you can't uninstall. Now if I type the "y" on the touch screen keyboard there is no problem. When I type the letter "a" it takes me to the text messaging list screen as if these are shortcuts but they make no sense inside a text. I had to reboot the phone and it corrected the problem. I just don't want to have to reboot in the middle of a text. The other problem with the phone is all of the hard loaded apps that can't be uninstalled. The best you can do is turn off automatic updates. I haven't gone through all of them yet so I don't know if all updates can be turned off. The other thing the tech support people don't know is the reason why the slide out keyboard and other lighting on the phone flickers on and off. The person who knew about it was a salesperson at Verizon. They figured out that the little circle at the top right corner of the phone senses light. If you are in complete darkness the phone stays lit with no problem. If you are in a well lit room the slide out keyboard does not light up. If you are in a poorly lit room then the keyboard light flickers on and off.
