RIM, the fastest growing company on earth.

Monday, August 24, 2009
As we've reported, cell phone sales have been fairly poor in the face of lackluster consumer sales. Yet, one area of the business that has been coining money has been the smartphone niche. And out of all of the smartphone manufacturers like HTC, Nokia, Apple and Palm, it is Canada's Research In Motion that has been named the fastest growing company in the world by Fortune magazine.

The BlackBerry maker was ranked number one based on its profits, turnover and investment returns over the past three years. This is the cellular firm's first time in the rankings as prior to this year; firms based outside of the U.S. were not allowed to be included. And RIM competitor Apple was ranked 39 on the list.

For RIM, it was a good time to change the rules as profits have expanded an average 84% per year in the last three years, revenue has risen 77% on average for each of the last three years, and total return has increased an average 45% per year during that time.

This makes it clear that successful companies can stand against the overwhelming economic crises.
