Teaser for the Huawei Watch confirms September 2nd release date

Monday, August 31, 2015

Back at MWC in March,
Huawei introduced the Android Wear powered Huawei Watch. Six months later, the timepiece will finally be released. As we told you just the other day, a listing on Amazon (which has since been removed) showed that the timepiece would be offered to buyers starting on September 2nd. The launch date is confirmed by a teaser that was tweeted by the manufacturer today. Besides the U.S., the smartwatch will be offered in China, Canada, the U.K., France, Germany, Japan and Australia.

The teaser shows a side image of the watch with the words "Elegance And Power In Perfect Harmony." That is followed by the location and date of Huawei's upcoming media event. The company is hosting a product announcement event this Tuesday, September 2nd in Berlin; a couple of days later, IFC 2015 will begin in the city. Besides introducing new phones like the Huawei Mate S, the manufacturer could announce the release of its long-awaited timepiece.

According to the now-removed Amazon listing, the Huawei Watch will be priced starting at $349 for the model with a stainless steel casing, and a black leather band. The highest priced model is $799 for a gold-plated version. The timepiece will support both iOS (version 8.2 or higher) and Android (version 4.3 or higher).

The Huawei Watch features a 1.4-inch AMOLED display protected by sapphire glass, and carries a resolution of 400 x 400 producing a pixel density of 286ppi. 512MB of RAM is inside the timepiece while a Snapdragon 400 SoC is under the hood. The watch contains 4GB of internal storage, and a 300mAh battery keeps the lights on. Besides sporting a heart rate monitor, the watch will come with 40 different faces.
