Marshmallow Hits 1.2% in Android’s Distribution Numbers for February

Thursday, February 4, 2016

Google has released its latest update to the distribution numbers for each version of Android.

Google's latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow is finally starting to appear in the Platform Versions chart after it reached 1.2 percent as on February 1. It took four months for the company's most recent mobile OS to scale up the charts with its current ranking, which is extremely disappointing.

According to Google's Dashboards, KitKat is still in the lead position with 35.5 percent, while Android Lollipop versions (5.0 and 5.1 combined) command 34.1 percent of the entire Android smartphone base around the world. Google's three-generation-old Android Jelly Bean has managed to hold on to a sizable share of 23.9 percent.

Older versions of Android, Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich, have a market share of 2.7 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively, which is more than what Android Marshmallow currently powers.

The data discussed in this article was gathered in a 7-day period ending on February 1. Hopefully, by next month, Marshmallow will arrive on at least another 1 percent of all Android devices.
