Thursday, March 17, 2016

MediaTek announced the Helio X20 processor last year and claimed it to be the 'world's first mobile processor with tri-cluster CPU architecture' and featuring 10-cores.

Yesterday, Chip maker MediaTek has unveiled a new deca-core processor called the MediaTek Helio X25. It basically has the same architecture a the existing Helio X20, but the new model has a higher clock speeds for both the CPU and graphics cores.

MediaTek have also revealed that the new Helio X25 was co-developed with Chinese phone maker Meizu and will be exclusive to the Pro 6 flagship initially.

In fact, Meizu will have exclusive access to the processor for several months, after which other companies can purchase the chip.

The Helio X25 has three processor clusters:

  • one cluster of two ARM Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 2.5 GHz.
  • one cluster of four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz.
  • one cluster of four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.4 GHz .

The Helio X20 also has a Mali T880 MP4 GPU clocked at 850MHz, supports up to 25 mega-pixel cameras (or dual 13 mega-pixel cameras).

Based on earlier report, Meizu's upcoming flagship smartphone is likely to feature 6GB of RAM alongside a large 128GB of inbuilt storage. Rumours point to a second version of the Pro 6 as well featuring 4GB of RAM with 64GB of inbuilt storage.
