Samsung launches its first Android device with iris recognition security

Samsung has launched the Galaxy Iris Tab in India. The device features an iris recognition technology, aimed at government and enterprises.

Samsung said the Android-powered tablet - called Galaxy Tab Iris - will be equipped with technology to allow authentication through the recognition of a person's iris for applications including banking and healthcare. The iris readings would be possible through one of the cameras.

The tablet features:

·         7-inch display with a resolution of 1024*600.

·         1.2 Ghz quad core processor.

·         5MP autofocus rear 'Iris' Camera for biometric authentication.

·         1.5GB RAM.

·         8 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 200 Gb with a MicroSD card.

·         3,600 mAh battery.

·         Android Lollipop 5.1 OS.

·         Dimensions: 193x116.4x9.7mm, Weighs: 327g.

·         Connectivity options : 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi 801.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and USB 2.0 .

The price point for the Galaxy Tab Iris is set at INR 13,499, or around $200.
