Samsung 8-core Exynos 5 mobile processor at CES

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Although Samsung did not announce the new Galaxy S mobile in their show at CES 2013, but they did a very exciting announcing about their new processor Exynos 5 Octa, which is an 8 core CPU that uses ARM's big.LITTLE processing. Where it distribute the work load among two groups of cores, one group handles the heavy processor lifting, while the other group will take over when less demanding tasks are required and save battery power.

This technique promises up to 70% lower power consumption compared to the Exynos 5 Dual, and it is designed for small form factor devices like phones.

The Exynos 5 Octa could possess as much as twice the 3D rendering prowess of the Exynos 4 Quad, which is found in the Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S III.
