Qualcomm Announces 3 Mid-range Snapdragon Chipsets – 653, 626 &427

Wednesday, October 19, 2016

Qualcomm, the world famous chipset maker has announced three new  mid-range chipsets in the 600 and 400 series. These chipsets are Snapdragon 653, Snapdragon 626 and Snapdragon 427.

Snapdragon 653 (MSM8976Pro) is the most powerful among the three chipsets.

The octa-core Snapdragon 653 is an incremental upgrade over the 652 and offers a performance improvement of up to 10% of the CPU and GPU (Snapdragon 653 reaches a maximum clock speed of 1.95GHz whereas it was 1.8GHz for Snapdragon 652) with twice the amount of supported RAM – up to 8GB. The 653 uses a new X9 LTE model which is an improvement over the X8 LTE modem found in the 652. This new modem brings better support for VoLTE and Ultra HD Voice.

The Snapdragon 653 also brings support for Qualcomm’s “Clear Sight dual camera technology” and Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

The octa-core Snapdragon 626 is also an incremental upgrade when compared to the 625 with a 10% performance increase(Snapdragon 626 can clock up to 2.2GHz whereas it was 2.0GHz on Snapdragon 625). And much like the 653, the 626 will also feature an X9 LTE modem, as well as support for Qualcomm’s Clear Sight dual-setup camera and Quick Charge 3.0 technology as well.

The quad-core Snapdragon 427 is an incremental upgrade over the 425 and delivers both a CPU and GPU performance increase over the Snapdragon 425. The Snapdragon 427 is getting an X9 LTE modem as well, which is quite a step up from the X6 LTE modem found in the Snapdragon 425

Just like the previous two CPUs the Snapdragon 427 also brings support for Qualcomm’s “Clear Sight dual camera technology” and Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

As for availability, the Snapdragon 653 and 626 will be available before the end of this year. The Snapdragon 427 will launch early next year.
